「同理心」畫展‧Art of Empathy

在我的畫作中，有一個男人在蜘蛛網中躺著，不能夠移動他的身體。他的忿怒從畫中心向四方八面投射出來。後來，我的同學走過來問我，畫作中心的男人是否正流露出生存的希望。這令我非常震驚，因為我在創作過程中從來沒有想到這一點。在視覺思維中，我們見到的不僅僅是病人，打針，病床，窗簾和整個病房，我們需要拓展我們的思維超越他們所在的環境。這樣能夠給予我們力量，不從不容的去看病人眼中的世界。

 

In my painting, there was a man lying on the net of a spider, being immobilized physically, radiating anger in all directions. That was my initial feeling for the patient with motor neuron disease at the beginning before the workshop. Later, one of my classmates came by and asked if the man in the middle was radiating hope of continuing his life. This gave me a huge shock as that was never my thought during drawing. Some would say that it would not be realistic as motor neuron disease had a very poor prognosis that patients were likely to worsen in a few years. But that was the problem for most medical professionals. We always see things in the diseased-based perspective e.g. clinical outcomes, prognosis etc. We know how the disease may progress and what deformities may occur to the patients but we never know how the patients interpret their conditions and always miss their true feelings.
